You may remember the Bill of Rights?  Fondly??? Today’s monoprint is from my “Natural History” series of over 100 one-of-a-kind artworks. In the wake of the “Fake News” debacle, I am posting prints from this series. Are the statements true or false? ( last post was oddly, true!). Follow the blog to get the true answers. Art is never the wrong answer.

Aquatint etching, linocut, trace transfer monotype. Monoprint. Edition 1/1.  For sale! Contact me for details on purchasing through my blog or etsy site.

12″x 18″. Framed 24″x 30″. Printed on Rives BFK white archival paper. Edition 1/1.  Each print background consists of 2, differently colored, inked, aquatinted copper plates printed over each other. This produces the variegated stripes.
Then I employ a variety of printing techniques: linocuts, collograph, etchings, monotyping, chine colle, etc., to create the subject. I design all the fonts by hand.

Little did I realize, when I began this series of etchings, that real politics would become part of my artwork. Fake News???? I am posting one of the over 100 monotype etchings: Natural History:Alexander Hamilton, today. True or False? I will answer this in my next blog. Censorship is the antithesis of art. I believe in the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and all the hard fought laws that American citizens gave their lives to defend.

Original premise: Pliny the Elder (who died in the Vesuvius explosion ) tried to collect a book of all knowledge-the first encyclopedia – and did he get a lot wrong! But even so, much of it still believed today.

Where to begin today? Maybe with our American Colonial past. The Constitution?

My belief is that our Founding Fathers, not being able to look into the future, posited gun ownership as a reasonable right. Settlers shot game for food. They used weapons to protect their families from massacres-not to start them.

Society changes slowly. People’s minds even more slowly. And then we hit a point where we question what changes will make us stronger.

You can’t legislate mental sanity, religious fanaticism or terrorism. We can never be fully safe.

My heart is with Orlando.

Let’s start over. When I began this blog I was full of ideas of what I wanted it to do.  (Look at prior blogs for reasons for my absence.)

That hasn’t changed much. I wanted to share my artwork. Primarily, my ongoing monoprint etching series, “Natural History”. There are over 100 prints in the series, and I thought that was plenty of fodder! With some entertainment value.
Along the way, I will be delighted to answer questions about technique and subject matter, philosophy, history, recipes, and my continuingly baffling personal life.

Today’s print is titled: “Natural History: Bill of Rights”

With the Memorial Day weekend about to begin, le us think about those who have served and sacrificed for this country. Eternal Vigilance. Eternal Gratitude.

NH:BillofRightsWell. Considering all the laws and rights we enjoy in America. And, pre-occupied with the the issue of medical insurance. Which is off the mark for this print. Don’t care. I was uninsurable for most of my adult life, due to a chronic health problem that started when I was a child.. I have experienced decades of no coverage, and subsequent near death outcomes. I have had government subsidized health care. Mixed help and results. I have had good insurance when I married, very late in life-with high costs. Today, I discovered that my very expensive insurance will not cover an essential medication. Cost to me? Over $1000.00 out of pocket a month. So, praying to get an answer. Don’t qualify for disability-even though I have an automatically qualifying condition. Too ill as an adult to have worked enough to qualify. Not destitute enough to qualify as indigent. Move to Sweden? Wales? Ireland?

Have a few pieces of artwork made when un-insurable. “Pre-Existing Condition”. “Buy This and the Artist Dies”- When on government insurance, couldn’t make any income.  “X-Ray”, and the like. This print features the 2 aquatint striped plate background. Lino gun and flag, And a very fetching etching plate-the ekg flatline. PLUS! hand drawn and designed fonts-a trace transfer technique.

Glad for those that the new health care helps.  I’ve survived over 45 years of this. What ya got for me today, Mr.President?
